Using USB and LAN at he same time?

Hi,

Can this NAS device be used by one PC as an external HDD over USB and another via the LAN, I have a very specific requirment for this as ne PC cannot be networked (by policy!).

Hi and welcome chubby,
the answer is NO.

If you want to run the device in USB mode you have to unplug the lan cable and reboot it.
In USB mode it is working like a thumb USB case but in NAS mode there is an ARM based processor with linux doing the job.

Thanks for that!

Oh well. Is this by design, i.e. the Linux/Arm is disabled and an alternate chipset takes over the running of the drive, or something that hasn't been inplemented under Linux yet?

Could linux 'technically' present it's drive to the PC under usb style connection? I understand that there's an unit in Austrailia the Ritmo NAS LAN 650 which can do this?

maybe, but for the NAS1000 and 2000 it is done in hardware.
When you run this NAS with USB the processor is not powered and no software/linux is involved.
