Hi and welcome here!

You cannot unbrick your NAS using this connector.
This is no USB port!

Verbatim used the USB connector for a 3.3V serial port.
The connection is from left to right: Vcc - Tx - Rx - GND
It is connected to CON9, too. (Square Pin=VCC - Tx - Rx - GND)

The JTAG port is located next to the Flash chip and should have 20 pins.
Follow the guide at the Wiki

Hi,
yes there is no other way.

You need a USB FTDI232R or LPT adapter.

Hi,
yes this adapter would do the job.

Have you checked ebay.com (search for FT232R)?
There is Chinese seller chenxueqian_cn2 who sells one for about 20US$ (no shipping costs).
Some people (me too) purchased there without problems.

Hi,
for the serial connection you have to connect GND-GND VCC-VCC Rx-Tx Tx-Rx

Do not forget:
set J1 to 1-2 (VCCIO Power=VCC from Target) and J4 to 2-3 or remove it.

If the bootloader does not work you need JTAG - follow the guides. (different pins, connector, software)

Yes, for serial connection it is ok

The background picture shows the JTAG connection.

There are 2 different connections.

1. serial - for controlling the bootloader and if the nas boots for the linux console.

2. JTAG - this is only for programming the bootloader into the FLASH chip (if it has been overwritten or erased)

Please read the various unbricking guides - the procedure is the same for all 3316 based devices. Only the connectors may be different.

Hi,
check the wiring. (GND, VCC, TCK, TMS, TDI, TDO, R28, debug mode)
Is the NAS switched on?

Try switch off/on the board.
