MCT Giga Lan server 2000 - bricked.. any chance ?

hi.

my story very close to other stories described in this forum.. :) tried to flash with third party firmware , and bricked. no console..., only continiously beeps when powered on.

product name : MCT Giga Lan Server 2000

this nas based on sl3516 , so as i seen in other topics, there still some little chance to debrick it using jtag.

i found that here : Giga NAS (NAS 2000) - HD wird nicht initialisiert described same product. it looks exactly as mine , and specifications seems to be same.. hope this helps.

Hello and welcome on board karabas :)

I had a short look at your pictures.
There does not seem to be a standard JTAG connector.

This will be a bit difficult. At the moment I have no good idea. But never say never 8)

For JTAG access we would need the signals: DBGRQ, TMS, TCK, TDI, TDO
Do you see any at least 5 points where to access these signals? I guess they should be somewhere between the CPU and the not equipped MINI_PCI connecor
Maybe you could provide me a better/sharper photo. Try to shoot one without flash and a tripod.

Hi,
from an old damaged NAS4220 board I found out on which CPU pins the JTAG signal should be.
On the MCT board there only seem to be the pull up and pull down resistors and no connector.
You will have to solder some wires or a small connector to the board.

A guess from me:
R66 - TDI
R67 - TMS
R68 - TDO
R69 - TCK
R70 - DBGACK
R71 - DBGRQ

You wrote that your board continuously beeps when powered on.

Try to pull DBGRQ to 3.3V (can be found near R66, 67, 68, 69, 70 - R71 leads to GND I think) with a 100 Ohm resistor an check:
Does it stop beeping?
Does the Voltage at R70 change from 0V to 3.3V?

But be careful not damaging your hardware completely.

Hi,
yes, this adapter is the best in my opinion because it is USB and can be used for JTAG and serial.

But if you already have a serial adapter you could use a self made unbuffered LPT one.

I'm looking forward to the guide :)

1 . putted 100ohm resistro inplace of R71 - no changes , still continiously beeps. and yes R71 leads to ground

2. putted same 100ohm resistor to R71 with 3.3v power - no changes, still continiously beeps.

Hi, you shall not remove any resistors.
R71 is 4k7 to GND. With 100 Ohm you can override this 0V to 3.3V.

You could connect the 100 ohm to 3.3V on one side and the other side to a wire.
With this wire you can probe to different resistors. You do not need to solder it. Try R70 and other resistors near them.

With 100 ohm it is safe and there is no danger to destroy the hardware.

Hi,
I got such a hardware from a user and could find the signals.

JTAG Signals
R66 - TDI
R67 - TMS
Test Pad on Bottom between C14 and CA4 - TDO
R68 - TCK
R69 - DBGACK
R71 - DBGRQ

As a first test I successfully read the bootloader.

Here are some pictures showing how I connected the wires to the real hardware
